The big day is finally here: you’re moving in to your freshman dorm. In just a few short hours, your whole life will completely change, and that’s incredibly scary. Moving away from your comfort zone of your home, parents, friends, and so much more is a huge change. Here is some advice to ensure that your first few weeks of college will set you on track for your next four years. 1. Leave your door open Leaving the door to your dorm room open is a great way to get to know the people on your floor. They can say hey as they walk by, or even stop in to chat. Plus, it makes you look friendly and inviting, a great quality in making new friends. 2. Join clubs and organizations Even if you think that what you’re interested in is lame, I guarantee you that there will be some sort of organization that will interest you. Join it, because you will meet other people with the same interest as you, giving you a whole other group of people that you will get to know. 3. Go through recruitment Greek life isn’t for everyone, but it is certainly worth a try. I have met so many amazing girls through my sorority who inspire me to be the best that I can be. I am also given so many leadership and service opportunities that I never would have had if I hadn’t joined a sorority. If you are on the fence about joining Greek life, I beg you to give it a try, because it will be incredibly worth it. 4. Study! I was one of the kids in high school that never needed to study for a test, because the material came so easily to me. College is different. Always stay on top of your course work because once you get behind, it is SO difficult to catch up. Do all of the readings, all the homework, and study hard for every test. Your GPA will thank you. 5. Have fun
Of course school is the most important thing and the reason you are here in the first place, but don’t be afraid to have fun, too. Have a girl’s night with your friends, hang out at your sorority house, go out, or just have a movie night in. Yes it’s school, but college is also a great place to have fun, so take advantage of it.
